DRAMA: Making books

In our two last lessons, we have been learning how to make books.

We started creating pop-up books, as they are the more atractives for small children. Here you can see my results:

We continued with jump out books:

And we tried with different cuts and angles. I decided to create a ghost as Halloween is getting closer:

To finish, we made some shape books:

I have found this activity really interesting and useful, because it is a good way of making children to enjoy literature.

DIDÁCTICA: Design a listening activity

Pre-listening

1. I will enumerate the aliens from 1 to 9 and ask the childrens some questions: How many eyes has alien number 3? How many legs has alien 6?. With this kind of questions, they will review some vocabulary about the parts of the body.

2. I will ask the childrens one by one which alien they like most and why.

While-listening

1. Previously the children would have prepared some legs, arms and eyes made with newspapers and plasticines. They will make a circle and put inside all the legs, arms and eyes. I will call them one by one and tell them to transform to an alien following my instructions "You are going to be an alien with three legs, four eyes and six arms".

2. As they continue in the circle, this time I will call the children in small groups (from two to four) and with their own bodys they would have to create a single alien following once again my intructions.

Post-listening

1. To finish the activity, I will ask the children to draw an alien with the characteristics I would say. "Your alien would have 4 heads, 8 eyes, 4 arms and 3 legs".

2. I will give each children a piece of paper with the aliens picture. I will describe one of them and they would have to circle it. We can repeat this until all the aliens have been described.

DIDÁCTICA: Listening for detail

To prepare this activity I have chosen the popular Aladdin's Disney movie song: "A whole new world".

The lyrics are the following:

I have prepared the following words for my classmates: world, princess, heart, eyes, carpet, sky, diamond and star. I have mixed them with another eight words which doesn't appear in the song: castle, king, prince, moon, butterfly, rainbow, cloud and swan. 

I have found16 pictures which corresponds to the 16 words. Here you can see some:

I'll give them to my classmates, so as they hear the song, they will have to look for the pictures which correspond to the words of the song.

DRAMA: Reader Room on the Broom (Carolina Ruiz and Laura Pinheiro)

Once upon a time there was a witch who had a cat, and a very tall hat.

She also had a very long hair, which she wore in a plait.

The cat and the witch sat on their broomstick, and Whoosh! They flew through the wind.

Suddenly the wind blew, and the witch her hat lost.

“Down!” Said the witch, and they flew to the ground.

They searched for the hat, but no hat they found.

Out of the bushes a dog appeared, he had the witch´s hat between his teeth.

“I am a dog  as friendly as can be,

Is there room on the broom  for a dog like me?

“Yes!” said the witch, and the dog clambered on.

The witch said “Let´s go” and Whoosh! They were gone.

Over the forest they flew when suddenly…

The wind blew and the witch her bow lost.

“Down”! Said the witch, and they flew to the ground.

They searched for the bow, but no bow they found.

Out of a tree a bird appeared, he had the witch´s bow between his beak.

“I am a bird as friendly as can be,

Is there room on the broom for a bird like me?”

“Yes!” said the witch, and the bird clambered on.

The witch said “Let´s go” and Whoosh! They were gone.

Over the rivers they flew when suddenly…

The wind blew and the witch her wand lost.

“Down!” said the witch and they flew to the ground.

They searched for the wand, but no wand they found.

Out of a pound a frog appeared, he had the witch´s wand into his hands.

“I am a frog as friendly as can be,

Is there room on the broom for a frog like me?”

“Yes!” said the witch, and the frog clambered on.

The witch said “Let´s go!” and Whoosh! They were gone.

There were all flying happily when the broom broke in two.

Down fell the cat and the dog and the frog.

And the witch heard a voice that was scary and loud.

“I am a dragon as unfriendly as can be,

And I´m planning to have witch for my tea”

“Help!” said the witch, as she started to run.

When a horrible beast appeared from the dark.

The dragon was scared, he started to cried,

As quickly as he could, he flew through the dark.

The terrible beast was the witch´s animal friends,

They had created a tower to made the dragon left.

The witch filled up her couldrum: “Iggety, Ziggety, Zaggety, ZOM!!”

From out of the couldrum flew a new super broom.

With seats for the witch, and the cat and the dog,

A nest for the bird and a shower for the frog.

The witch said “Let´s go!” and Whoosh! They were gone.

THE THREE LITTLE PIGS

Once upon a time there were three little pigs who lived in the forest.

They heard that a terrible wolf had arrived to the forest, so they decided to build a big house to be safe.

They built the house with all the dried fruits they could found in the forest: almonds, nuts, chestnuts...

One night the wolf discovered the little pig's house. He couldn´t find a way to enter, so he decided to start eating the walls.

The wolf ate and ate, and when he finally opened a big hole on the wall he was so fat he couldn't get into the house.

He wasn't hungry anymore so he went far far away and the three little pigs were safe forever.
